Health and Human Services, which has announced that members of Medicare will have numerous options for high quality plans and Seattle Medicare Advantage, is now improving its performance. They will also be releasing their quality ratings for their 2013 Medicare health and drug plans. During the open enrollment for Medicare, people can use the star ratings to compare high quality health and drug plans so that they can choose the plan with the best value for their health care needs in 2013.
In 2013, people who are on Medicare will have wider choices of plans including those plans which have four stars and five stars. Beneficiaries will be able to access 127 Medicare Advantage plans which have four stars and five stars. Currently, there are 37% enrollees in these types of Medicare Advantage plans and more seniors will be attracted to these plans due to their high quality ratings. In 2012, people only had 106 choices of plans which have four stars or five stars and there were only 28% enrollees.
Members of Medicare can choose from the 26 prescription drug plans which have four stars or five stars and which presently serve 18% of the enrollees. This shows a great improvement since in 2012, there were only 13 plans which had four star or five star ratings and they only served 9% of the enrollees. Medicare plans are rated according to their performance. The ratings will be from one star to 5 stars. An excellent performance will be given five stars while a poor performance will have one star. The gold star icon represents 5 star plans. Due to the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, Medicare is now promoting high quality plans. They are also alerting Medicare beneficiaries who are currently enrolled in low quality plans.
